Delft Road Safety Courses

In September 2016 the fifth version of the international course Road safety in low and middle income countries was given at Delft University of Technology. Road safety for all initiated the course in 2011 and since then supported the course organization and the programme.
Fred Wegman, emeritus professor Road safety at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Delft University of Technology (and former director of SWOV) is responsible for the content of the course and the selection of lecturers. .
The actual organization of the course is in the hands of PAO-TM Foundation Post Graduate Education and Road safety for all, whereas  SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research also serves as member of the organizing committee. In 2015 the FIA Foundation Scholarship Programme merged with the Delft course and since then Delft University and FIA Foundation present an integrated course programme.

The course intends to provide up-to-date  road safety knowledge to professionals from LMIC’s. In ten full days a group of 20-25 students receives a comprehensive post-graduate training, given by a team of international lecturers. Together with our alumni we support follow-up activities, i.e. focussing on the development of local courses and related actions.
The course receives  high ratings from the participants.

In view of our ambition to support the development of local courses  we also  entered into a broader cooperation with Delft University of Technology, SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research  and PAO-TM Foundation Post Graduate Education, named Delft Road Safety Courses (DRSC). Its goal is to deliver worldwide courses on road safety in LMIC’s. In addition to an annual course in Delft, DRSC is offering tailor made courses locally in LMIC’s inspired by the course in Delft. Alumni of the Delft course can play a central role in the organization of such national courses and also provide a number of lectures. In 2014 and 2016 local courses were presented in Dubai and Ghana.

In december 2016 Delft Road Safety Courses is registered as a legal entity (a foundation according to Dutch law) with the Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands. All DRSC partners are represented in the Board of Directors. It is not a charity which provides donations or commissions projects.
